On Tuesday, June 18th, the fourth grade will be hosting a Poetry Slam to showcase their work at the end of the school year. Friends and families will be invited to join us in the Lincoln School Theater from 8:15am- 8:45am to hear original poems from all three classes.
To prepare for this event, the fourth grade teachers need help gathering supplies and volunteers to tie dye and then print shirts to wear at this event. Last year, the art of making these tie dye shirts was a wonderful community building opportunity for students and volunteers alike. To make for a successful tie dye session, we will need:
The responsibilities of the tie dye volunteers include assisting a small group of students as they prepare their shirts for dying using rubber bands (inside the classroom), then managing a small group (outside) as they add color to their designs. The date for tie dying is scheduled for Friday, May 17th (with a rain date of May 24th). The responsibilities of printing volunteers include assisting the art teacher during an art class as students print words from their poems onto their shirts using an ink-stamping technique. The dates for printing are scheduled for:
Please email Mrs. Collins (Dominic’s mom) at [email protected] and Mrs. White (Henry's Mom) at [email protected] to let them know if you are available to volunteer or help with donations.

Of the many things 4th graders learn in Brookline, one of the most exciting is our study of economics. This learning is integrated into both the math and social studies curriculum and includes learning about market forces such as supply and demand. One of the most powerful ways to understand these concepts is to experience them directly! Boulaybank is a financial literacy program and classroom economy that we use throughout the year in 4K. Students are able to earn classroom "money" for classroom jobs and fulfilling their responsibilities in school. They make investments, rent and buy items, pay bills, save money and some even choose to start and run small "businesses" creating crafts to "sell" to other students! Students learn financial skills first-hand by witnessing the results of their work, spending habits, and money management skills.
